Abstract

Teacher professional development requires madrasah leaders to identify teachers’ needs, provide relevant learning opportunities, and follow up on evaluation results. This article examines the management practices, strategies, and supporting and inhibiting factors in improving teacher professionalism at MAN 1 Central Lombok. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through observation, interviews with the madrasah principal and teachers, and documentation. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with source and method triangulation used to strengthen the credibility of the findings. The findings show that development programs were planned by identifying teachers’ needs, setting objectives, and allocating available resources. Implementation included training, workshops, teacher forums, encouragement to pursue further study, and direct guidance from the principal. Academic supervision, performance appraisal, and reflective meetings informed subsequent improvements. Teachers’ commitment and cooperation with external institutions supported these efforts, while limited resources, competing teaching schedules, and differing readiness for change posed challenges. The study highlights the value of connecting needs assessment, collaborative learning, supervision, and follow-up within a continuous management cycle.
